The Bridge to Academic Success
Our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program at East Valley provides a crucial bridge between preschool and kindergarten. This specialized program is designed for children ages 4-6 who benefit from an additional year of preparation before entering kindergarten. Our TK experience offers the perfect balance of structured learning and developmentally appropriate activities to help children gain the confidence, skills, and maturity they need for future academic success.
In order to help make our program accessible to all, we offer extended care hours and accept subsidized programs such as GoKids, Choices for Children, and CalWORKs.
The Abeka Advantage
Our Transitional Kindergarten utilizes the time-tested Abeka curriculum, recognized for its systematic approach to building academic skills. This comprehensive curriculum:
- Follows a logical, sequential pattern of learning
- Incorporates spiral review to reinforce concepts
- Integrates subjects for meaningful connections
- Provides colorful, engaging materials
- Balances skill development with conceptual understanding
The Abeka approach is particularly effective for developing strong literacy and numeracy foundations, giving children advantages that benefit them throughout their educational journey.
Kindergarten Readiness Skills
Our Transitional Kindergarten program explicitly focuses on developing the skills children need for kindergarten success:
- Academic Readiness: Letter recognition and sounds, number concepts, and cognitive skills
- Social Readiness: Taking turns, following directions, participating in group activities
- Emotional Readiness: Managing feelings, developing independence, and building confidence
- Physical Readiness: Fine and gross motor skills, including pencil control and coordination
- Learning Behaviors: Attention span, task completion, and classroom routines
We assess these skills regularly and communicate with parents about their child's progress and growth areas.
