Coding at EVCS – Space Rover Deluxe Coding

Image

Our innovative coding program for Transitional Kindergarten uses the Space Rover Deluxe Coding Activity Set, a screen-free, hands-on approach where students program a rover using directional arrow commands through exciting mazes, obstacles, bridges, arches, and astronaut missions. This unique program builds early coding foundations by teaching students to sequence step-by-step rover movements, develop problem-solving skills as they plan routes and debug unsuccessful paths, and foster collaboration as teams design mazes and solve challenges together. The space mission theme connects coding with storytelling and creativity, making learning both engaging and imaginative. By building mental models for sequencing and debugging, our program serves as a bridge to advanced digital coding platforms while encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork in a fun, meaningful, and Christ-centered environment.

Spanish for All!

Our schoolwide Spanish program is taught from preschool through junior high, focusing on developing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through age-appropriate methods. We deliver interactive lessons that include songs, stories, and games for younger grades, while upper grades engage in conversation, writing, and projects. The program emphasizes cultural connections by teaching students about holidays, music, art, and traditions, alongside practical application through Spanish use in classroom routines and community events. With progressive skill-building designed to develop fluency year by year toward high school readiness, this program equips students with bilingual communication skills, builds cultural appreciation and global awareness, and aligns with EVCS's mission of academic excellence and leadership formation.
